YANMAR Technical Review

Editor’s Postscript

January 27, 2016

Happy New Year to all of our readers!

I would like to thank everyone who has read Yanmar Technical Review over this past year and wish you all the best for the coming year. While the publication date for this issue comes some time after the New Year, I would still like to pass on these belated seasonal greetings.

The weather in the outskirts of Osaka where Yanmar is headquartered remained mild over the holiday period and I was lucky enough to enjoy a quiet start to the new year. Sadly, it was not long before this mood of a fresh start was swept away by news items such as the sudden drop in the Shanghai Stock Exchange and the “hydrogen bomb” test by North Korea. Even as Japan’s economy and security situation appear to be becoming more uncertain, Yanmar strive to provide customers with better products and services for our customers by continuously refining our technologies.

This issue of Yanmar Technical Review carries five articles, with one from each of our main areas of business: agriculture, construction, energy, and marine, and a remaining article relating to the machine tools business, a sector that readers may not typically associate with Yanmar. As a matter of fact, for more than half a century, Kanzaki Kokyukoki Mfg. Co., Ltd., part of the Yanmar Group, has been manufacturing shaving machines and various other gear finishing machines, vertical turning machines used for machining engine pistons and compressor parts, and various special-purpose machine tools. If this is of interest to you, please visit their web site.

We will continue to bring you articles about technologies and products from Yanmar’s diverse business activities in future issues. I hope this will encourage interest in our activities.
